In this podcast, we reframe “Eschatology” around the question “What will God do in the end?” instead of “When will the end come?” The talk begins with an explanation of the Book of Revelation as apocalyptic literature instead of prophetic literature— and the difference that makes. The talk then unpacks the Jewish vision of hope in the 1st century and how the Christian picture redefined that vision around Jesus, the crucified and risen Messiah. The podcast closes with a brief discussion of how "rapture theology" may be the result of a misreading of a few key Scriptures. Reading these texts in the light of 1st century Roman Empire language paints a picture of a conquering King coming to bring His Kingdom to earth, rather than a hero who whisks his people away.

Week 1_ More than Heaven_ What is the End Goal_
This Sunday, we'll talk about what happens to a Christian when he or she dies. Believe it or not, the popular notion often heard at Christian funerals is quite different from the Biblical picture that the Church held for the first 1200 years or so and remains in its clearest expression in the Creeds.
Join us this Sunday, February 13, in the World Prayer Center, Room 107, at 11am-12:15pm.
Excellent teaching, Glenn. This is much needed. I look forward to next week.

Though I don't attend New Life, I will be sure to check this out. My usual "eschatology" podcast has been lacking in updates. :-)
