I'm sitting here on a stuffy plane stuck on a runway in DFW thinking about the Denver Broncos-- another large group of frustrated people who can't get where they want to go. And I'm thinking about the Tim Tebow pick.
I was excited when we traded a low pick for Brady Quinn several weeks ago and thought he might be the QB of the future. So I-- like everyone with a pulse and the ESPN channel-- was surprised by the pick. After thinking about it overnight, here's what I've decided:
Tim Tebow is a winner. He's a gifted leader whose own convictions make him outwork those he leads. He's the kind of guy that shapes the culture of a team, the atmosphere of a locker room. And in the wake of a 2-time super bowl winning QB being suspended for shameful, immoral actions (see "Ben Roethlisberger"), a leader whom players, coaches, and fans can respect is worth his weight in gold.
So, as a statement about the kind of team Coach McDaniels wants to have, and the kind of leadership it takes to get there, Tim Tebow is the right choice. Who knows? Maybe his drive for excellence and his uncanny knack for winning will carry this Bronco team to their desired destination. If only the same could be said for my grounded American Airlines flight.
They should have taken Colt McCoy!! I cannot believe he went in the third round. The Browns got a steal. Hook em!

As an Arkansas Razorback fan I've suffered through his ability to lead and win for 3 years now. He makes you want to work harder in every area of life. He makes you want to serve. He's an awesome guy. I'm glad he's in the NFL and not the SEC now!

My husband wasn't surprised by the pick -- in fact, he called it about a week before the draft and waited on pins and needles, hoping it would actually happen. He likes Tim Tebow for all the reasons you stated. In fact, he likes him so much that he hopes in about twenty years Tim will run for President! We could do worse, I suppose. :)
